Density Avoidance in Pedestrian Crowds
Traffic jam caused by self-propelled particles is a research topic of broad interest. Cellular automata models are used for the simulation and analysis. One of the popular models is the floor field model. We add the rule of avoiding high density among particles to the model and show that it enables simulating a more realistic situation.
متن کاملModeling Social Group Structures in Pedestrian Crowds
– Group structure is an important characteristic of social crowd. However, up to now, the effect of group structure to crowd behavior has not been widely studied. This is partially due to the fact that modeling group-related behavior is a challenging task because of the many factors that need to be considered. This paper presents a uniformed framework for modeling different group structures in ...
متن کاملSelf-Organization Phenomena in Pedestrian Crowds
Pedestrian crowds can very realistically be simulated with a social force model which describes the different influences affecting individual pedestrian motion by a few simple force terms. The model is able to reproduce the emergence of several empirically observed collective patterns of motion. These self-organization phenomena can be utilized for new flow optimization methods which are indisp...

Multiple application areas have an interest in pedestrian dynamics. These range from urban design of public areas to evacuation dynamics to effective product placement within a store. In Hoogendoorn et al [Hoogendoorn 2002] multiple abstractions utilized in simulations or calculations involving pedestrian agents include (1) cost models for selected route choice, (2) macroscopic pedestrian opera...
متن کاملTraffic Instabilities in Self-Organized Pedestrian Crowds
In human crowds as well as in many animal societies, local interactions among individuals often give rise to self-organized collective organizations that offer functional benefits to the group. For instance, flows of pedestrians moving in opposite directions spontaneously segregate into lanes of uniform walking directions. This phenomenon is often referred to as a smart collective pattern, as i...
